Heroin wrecks families, even when family members are separated by hours of travel.

"It’s the tale of two sisters from New Jersey – one in college trying to earn a teaching degree, the other one simply trying to stay out of jail.

In November, Samantha Humienny, 24, was stopped by police officers while walking on a Paterson street and given a citation for ****, according to her family. But Samantha misidentified herself as Jaclyn Humienny – her 20-year-old sister who is in Florida studying to be a teacher.

Samantha Humienny’s use of her sister as an alias is now threatening the future of Jaclyn Humienny, who must pass background checks before she can be hired as a special education teacher, her parents said Tuesday.

Jaclyn Humienny and her parents – Brian and Cynthia – have been fighting for weeks to clear their younger daughter’s name, ever since a citation was mailed to their home in Florida, along with a demand for more than a $530 fine for failing to appear in court.

“This will ruin my daughter’s future,” Brian Humienny told NJ Advance Media on Tuesday. To make matters worse, Paterson police have insisted the only way to straighten things out is for Jaclyn to come to New Jersey, he said.

“We have asked Paterson repeatedly to help us,” Brian Humienny said. “They’ve been hanging up the phone on us."
